SGI Europe led a European project named ‘Involving SGIs in the European Semester’, aiming at upgrading the current SGI Europe involvement in the European Semester, with increased coordination between our members. This project was supported by funding from the European Commission’s DG Employment.
‘Involving SGIs in the European Semester’ background
Public services and SGI employers are essential actors in the European economy, delivering daily essential services to millions of citizens. SGI Europe members are committed to working towards the four dimensions of environmental sustainability, productivity gains, fairness and macro-economic stability whilst contributing to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The European Semester has become the main instrument to give directions to these objectives and the 2020 European Semester country-specific recommendations transversal communication clearly stated that “access to social services and essential services (including water, sanitation, energy and digital communication) should be ensured for all”.
However, not all SGI Europe members are in a position to respond in due time to the various consultations EU social partners have access to. This project intends to correct this situation and actively design tools and methods of consultation to the benefit of SGI Europe members and to provide future high-quality inputs to the reform process in Europe.
What ‘Involving SGIs in the European Semester’ aims to achieve:
