Industrial Accelerator Act: SGI Europe underlines the role of services of general interest in Europe’s industrial transition

On 4 March 2026, the European Commission adopted its proposal for the Industrial Accelerator Act, which aimed to support the decarbonisation and competitiveness of European industry. Building up on the Clean Industrial Deal, the IAA focuses on mobilising investment, developing lead markets for low-carbon materials and reinforcing resilient European value chains that underpin Europe’s economy and strategic manufacturing sectors.

Following the presentation of the proposal, Valeria Ronzitti, SGI Europe General Secretary, commented:

“SGI Europe welcomes the proposal for the Industrial Accelerator Act, which marks an important step towards strengthening Europe’s industrial capacity while accelerating the decarbonisation of strategic sectors. By combining investment support, the creation of lead markets and stronger European value chains, the proposal can help provide greater certainty for industrial transformation. Ensuring that these tools remain practical for providers of services of general interest will be key to achieving effective implementation across Europe.”

“We acknowledge that supporting the creation of lead markets for specific sectors and low-carbon materials can play a role in boosting the European industry. However, it will be important to ensure that these instruments remain targeted, practical and proportionate for the authorities and enterprises responsible for delivering SGIs, and do not trigger additional administrative burden and litigation risks for actors in public procurement procedures.”
