5 May 2021
On Wednesday 5 May 2021, the European Commission presented the update of the EU Industrial Strategy, together with the Annual Single Market Report. Its aim is to ensure that its industrial ambition takes full account of the new circumstances following the COVID-19 crisis and helps to drive the transformation to a more sustainable, digital, resilient, and globally competitive economy.
Reacting to the proposal, Valeria Ronzitti, General Secretary of SGI Europe, said:
“SGI Europe welcomes the update of the EU Industrial Strategy, as well as its first Annual Single Market Report. In the last 12 months, the pandemic highlighted some strategic and structural deficiencies which should be addressed. In the package, the European Commission provides a clear picture about the EU strategic dependencies. It also details how to achieve the green and digital transition with the help of the EU regulatory toolbox.”
“The first Annual Single Market Report gives a valuable in-depth analysis of 14 key industrial ecosystems, including many of sectors amongst our membership such as transport, social services, tourism, energy or culture.”
“SGI Europe is now calling upon Member States and the Parliament to build up on the conclusions of this Commission analysis in order to take decisive actions to strengthen the EU strategic autonomy. In each of the ecosystems, we need to enhance cooperation tools between all companies, including SGI providers. It is key to support and develop a stronger European economic basis building up on in the fierce international competition.”
