
Ingbert Liebing has been CEO of the German Association of Local Public Utilities (Verband kommunaler Unternehmen e. V. (VKU)) since 1st April 2020.
After finishing his studies in political science, it did not take long for the Flensburg-native to discover his passion for local politics. He gathered his first experiences in the 80s and 90s, as a member of the Neumünster city council and deputy chair of CDU Neumünster. As mayor of Sylt-Ost, he guided the politics of the municipality from 1996 to 2005. In 2013, Liebing was elected federal chairman of the association for local politics of CDU/CSU. Subsequently, in 2017, he was named state secretary and authorized representative of the state Schleswig-Holstein at the federal level. From 2005 to 2017, he was a member of the German Bundestag. In addition, during the previous legislative period, he was spokesperson for local politics for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
He is married, has two daughters and frequents the railway-line Berlin-Sylt.
