The Environment Task Force’s main focus is preparing the inputs of SGI Europe on the new Circular Economy Action Plan, and further reflecting on shaping a more efficient environment legal framework to support reaching the EU climate targets for 2030 and 2050. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis, a strong circular economy will be the most important enabler to fight climate change and create economic growth and new jobs.
The members of the Task Force actively contribute to ensure that circular products and services are the new standard in Europe. It includes the promotion of the principle of “waste prevention at source”, as well as the development of legislative and economic measures to develop a strong and resilient secondary materials market.
Providers of SGIs deal with waste management measures, such as the ecodesign and recycling of batteries, waste collection infrastructures and planning, packaging, waste packaging and urban planning. They also contribute to integrating measures for climate adaptation and mitigation across several sectors such as the energy, transport, water and waste-water management.
