A new Skills and Talent package to create a performing labour market for all legal migrants

Today (27 April), the European Commission published its Skills and Talent package within the Pact on Migration and Asylum. SGI Europe welcomes this proposal, which should help address labour shortages and skills mismatches and push for a solid and systemic selection policy to advance a sound common European migration and asylum policy.

Commenting on the proposals of the European Commission, Valeria Ronzitti, SGI Europe General Secretary, said:

"SGI Europe welcomes the Skills and Talent package, which is an important step in shaping a common EU migration and asylum policy. With the Talent Pool and the Talent Partnership, the European Commission is finally laying the ground for a common vocational and educational training dimension to our migration policy, for all skills levels including the care and other essential workers."

"The success and reach of the Talent Pool will depend on the deployment of adequate resources to make the tool accessible and operational. Setting up networks on the grounds to support its implementation, with the social partners and in line with the Partnership for Integration, will support the Talent Pool's deployment and help connect the relevant actors and make it work."

"The current geopolitical instability in the EU neighbourhood also calls for an ambitious approach to advance very fast towards a common European migration and asylum policy, starting with the reform of the Dublin Regulation."

"To that aim, scaling up the Talent Partnerships could open the way towards a more coordinated European migration framework. Ensuring visibility and transparency in the implementation of the Talent Partnerships through monitoring and evaluation mechanism, with the active involvement of the national and European social partners, can help build such momentum."
