Creating a green and just transition: SGI Europe is committed to continue with the Clean Transition Dialogues

On 10 April 2024, the European Commission presented its stocktaking communication on the Clean Transition Dialogues, which should support the implementation of the EU Green Deal to reach climate neutrality by 2050 in a sustainable, resource-efficient, fair and competitive economy.

Building on SGI Europe’s active participation in several consultations, we stand ready to continue the Dialogues with the European Commission to ensure the optimal implementation of the EU Green Deal.

Following the publication of the communication, Valeria Ronzitti, General Secretary, commented:

“SGI Europe has been, since day one, a strong supporter of making the Green Deal the new growth strategy for the EU. It is now essential to build its business case and develop the EU Green Single Market. SGI Europe welcomes the invitation to involve social partners in these discussions and endorses structurally and effectively our cross-sectoral expertise in the Clean Transition Dialogues.”

“Supporting industries and public undertakings will be vital in this crucial transition. Boosting green skills and the up- and re-skilling of workers is an immense challenge, and social partners are the best placed to address this cross-sectoral challenge.
We also welcome the recommendations for a level playing field towards all low-carbon and renewable energy technologies, the calls for faster implementation of renewable energy resources and the abolishment of fossil fuel subsidies.”

“Financial support to succeed in the green transition must be addressed through private and public funding and increased diversification. SGI Europe welcomes the recognition of the ETS's impact and calls for efficiently raising CO2 prices to mobilise innovative and strategic projects to achieve the Green Deal. Predictability is key for SGIs: SGI Europe calls upon the next European Commission to continue on the green transition path and work strategically to green the EU Single Market.”
