Keeping the focus on delivery: European Commission on the right path

Commenting on the publication of the European Commission Work Programme 2016, CEEP General Secretary Valeria Ronzitti welcomed the emphasis on the delivery stressed in the document and the Commission’s awareness that citizens will judge the EU on the concrete results.

We are ready to make sure the main initiatives of the European Commission are shaped to facilitate the daily delivery of public services. They should enable public services’ providers to invest in the necessary infrastructures and technologies to deliver efficient and effective services to citizens. Public services providers are ready to make a contribution to the European Agenda on Migration as services such as housing, education, hospitals and employment services will be at the heart of refugees’ integration. On that regard, the Better Regulation approach should ensure that subsidiarity and proportionality will guide those initiatives.

However, while supporting the general approach of focusing and delivering on big issues, we deplore the absence of the issue of Working Time in the Commission Work Programme. A new approach to tackle this priority issue is more than necessary, as the European Court of Justice keeps ruling to fill the gaps in the current legislation.”
