10 March 2025
On Monday 10 March 2025, SGI Europe addressed the meeting of the Macro-Economic Dialogue at Political Level (MEDPOL). The meeting brought together, amongst others, Andrzej Domanski (Minister of Finance, Poland), Valdis Dombrovskis (Commissioner for Economy and Productivity), Christine Lagarde (President, ECB), Paschal Donohoe (President, Eurogroup), and social partners, with a focus on the economic outlook and the key regulatory barriers that contribute to the fragmentation of the single market for services.
Representing SGI Europe, Tor Hatlevoll, chair of the Macro-Economics Task Force, said:
“With its recent proposals, the European Commission has made clear that Europe must adapt to a new economic reality with bold action and a renewed focus on competitiveness. SGI Europe fully supports this endeavour. We need to ensure a more favourable environment for all enterprises, whether public or private, within the single market.”
“At a time of increasing global instability, the Single Market should be a driver of resilience and growth. Instead, it remains fragmented, weighed down by regulatory complexity and inconsistent national policies. Regulatory fragmentation remains a major obstacle. For years, our members have reported conflicting rules between competition policy, public procurement, and investment frameworks, making long-term planning difficult.”
“EU policies and investment frameworks must reflect the critical role that SGIs play in enabling economic growth and integrating all EU territories into the single market. Strong SGIs ensure that the single market is fully integrated across the EU. They bring high-quality services and infrastructures that strengthen local and regional economies and allow regions to contribute and profit from the single market fully.”
