SGI Europe reacts to the European Commission proposal for a directive on improving working conditions in platform work

On Thursday 9 December 2021, the European Commission presented its proposal for a directive on improving working conditions in platform work.

Commenting on the proposals, Valeria Ronzitti, SGI Europe General Secretary, said:

“Whilst fully supporting the ambition to create a level playing field with regards to platform work, SGI Europe calls for respecting national traditions regarding labour and industrial relations and for leaving enough margin of manoeuvre to Member States and national social partners.”

“As presented today, the proposal for a directive on platform work puts forward a one-size-fits-all approach. SGI Europe is particularly concerned about the proposal for a rebuttable presumption of employment. We will now assess the content of the proposal in detail with our members to ensure that the perspective and specific impacts of the proposals on SGI employers and enterprises are duly taken into account within the institutional negotiations.”
