SGI Europe reacts to the vote of the European Parliament on the new European Commission

SGI Europe welcomes the outcome of the European Parliament's vote on the new European Commission, which ends a period of instability and political negotiations and confirms the start of the new EU institutional cycle on 1st December 2024.

Valeria Ronzitti, SGI Europe General Secretary, commented on the new European Commission:

“As EU leadership is needed, we welcome the end of the instability and the start of the new EU term. Building upon the past five years and through a renewed commitment to the objectives of the EU Green Deal, SGI Europe calls for identifying and shaping an EU model of competitiveness, balancing economic growth and social and territorial cohesion, simplifying the regulatory burden, and addressing the massive investment gaps.”

“Services of general interest, such as healthcare, education, housing, public transport, public service media, energy, telecommunications or water, serve every citizen and enterprise and are at the heart of this European approach to competitiveness. SGI Europe and its members will be instrumental in bringing to life the priorities of the new European Commission.”

“In that context, and as a part of the Competitiveness Compass and the Clean Industrial Deal, SGI Europe reiterates its call for developing a dedicated European Action Plan for High-Quality SGIs, and we stand ready to support the European Commission in this endeavour.”
