State of the energy union: an Important Step towards Reliability and a Decarbonised EU Economy

Commenting on the presentation of the first State of the Energy Union by European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, CEEP General Secretary Valeria Ronzitti said:

As representative of employers and providers of public services, CEEP welcomes the first State of the Energy Union. It is an important instrument to further put the Energy Union Strategy on the right track. By developing a framework for upcoming steps towards implementation, the State of the Energy Union is a helpful contribution to increasing the reliability of the European climate and energy policies, and ensuring predictability for public services’ providers in their investment decisions and their job creation potential.

 

The following months will therefore be decisive to foster a beneficial environment for investments and market-based solutions. Among others, the debate on a reform of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is key for sending out the right signals for a de-carbonised and highly resource-efficient European economy.

 

Public services’ providers hope that the State of the Energy Union will give an additional and clear push to the EU contribution to a successful and reliable climate agreement at the COP21 in two weeks.”

CEEP members will now proceed with an in-depth analysis of the State of the Energy Union.
