The new EU Talent Pool to improve the social and economic integration of Ukrainian refugees in the EU

Today (10 October), the European Commission presented its pilot EU Talent Pool as a part of the Skills and Talent package within the Pact on Migration and Asylum. SGI Europe welcomes this proposal, which should strengthen skills recognition and matching between Ukrainian refugees, enterprises and other stakeholders (such as training providers and integration services).

Commenting on the new instrument, Valeria Ronzitti, General Secretary of SGI Europe, said:

“SGI Europe welcomes the pilot EU Talent Pool, which should offer job opportunities for Ukrainian refugees in position of taking up employment while gathering more data on the skills of the refugees and fostering further integration and acceptability in the hosting communities. Whereas many sectors experience labour shortages and skills mismatches due to rising demand for skills and an ageing workforce, the Talent Pool could add value to sectors with great demand, including care workers and nursing professionals.”  

“Building on the lessons learnt from past actions, and in line with the principles of the European Partnership for Integration, it is essential to ensure a multi-stakeholder approach which links up partners on the ground for providing skills and qualifications recognition, language training and integration services, including childcare support.”

"Based on the outcomes of this pilot initiative, scaling up the Talent Pool and the Talent Partnerships could lead to a more coordinated European migration framework while developing a common approach for vocational and educational training dimension in migration policy for all skills levels.”
