The Energy Task Force gathers small and big utility services in the electricity and gas sectors. It also includes representatives of the housing sector, with a focus on the way forward for a just transition. The main priority files are currently the Clean Energy Package and the EU climate and energy policy files.
Building up on the objectives set in the EU Green Deal, the Task Force operates under the following four key principles:
- Ensure economic and social progress which depends on energy availability;
- Availability and security of supply should be ensured across all EU energy and Climate policies. It encompasses various dimensions involving geopolitics, market organisation, interconnections and diversification of energy sources including the need to develop indigenous energy sources;
- Environment protection, including fighting climate change, is another side of energy policy which requires long term incentives for low carbon, environment-friendly and efficient energy production as well as efficient energy consumption;
- Affordability of energy is required for both industry and households. The concept of “fair prices”, i.e., covering total costs, should also reflect the need to incentivise energy efficient behaviour without hampering competitiveness and household welfare
