In Germany, VKA (Vereinigung kommunaler Arbeitgeberverbände) reports that the pressure put on hospitals and the healthcare sector has increased to an unprecedented extent, and will increase even further.
Hospitals are already losing considerable financial resources due to the postponement or, if necessary, the cancellation of elective services, while having to also make immense advance payments as the financing of all the measures required by the COVID-19 emergency are still to be secured.
While recognizing the admirable efforts of hospitals and their employees in dealing with this emergency situation, the associated financial burden must not be neglected. Hospitals must be financially secured, at a level far beyond the acute extent of the current crisis, in order to maintain their efficiency.
